Welcome to Allora Therapy.
I’m Dr. Christine Rufener, an American clinical psychologist, humanitarian worker, and expat.
I use evidence-based practices and techniques to help individual clients with anxiety, depression, trauma, and questions around personal identity and direction.
I’m here to help you.
My Approach
Collaborative and Direct
I take a collaborative approach to therapy—one where we work together to understand what you’re experiencing and identify what feels most meaningful to change. I bring curiosity, clinical insight, and steady support while honoring your expertise in your own life. Together, we’ll clarify your goals, explore what’s getting in the way, and build practical strategies that feel authentic to you. I will also hold you accountable and call out responses or behaviors that are not serving you—with kindness, but with clarity as well.
International—Humanitarian and Expat Experience
I have lived and worked as a psychologist around the world, including high security settings, and know well both the highs and lows of working and living internationally. I understand culture shock (and reverse culture shock), isolation, questioning of identity and belonging, and the other unique stressors that humanitarian workers and expats face.
Evidence-Based Treatment
I am certified or trained in multiple evidence-based practices for anxiety, depression, and trauma, including Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Narrative Exposure Therapy (NET), Motivational Interviewing (MI), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Social Skills Training (SST). We will talk together about what these mean and what approach may be best for you.
Allora Therapy
“Allora” comes from the Latin illam horam, meaning “at that hour” or “at that time.” Over time this phrase evolved into modern Italian, where it is peppered throughout everyday conversation.
Allora is often used to mean “so,” “therefore” or to indicate a change in direction of a conversation. It can also be used to prompt someone to speak, act, or respond.
I want to help you change your direction—to help you make choices consistent with your values, morals, and identity, in an increasingly complex world. I also am here to prompt you, to push you, and to hold you accountable for making changes consistent with your goals and intentions.
Allora, let’s get started…
